July 24 – FIFA has said that despite difficulties in concluding broadcast contracts, they nevertheless provide a “strong global platform” for the Women’s World Cup.
FIFA was still completing broadcast deals right down to the tournament kick-off with key free-to-air deals concluded in Japan with NHK and China PR with CCTV.
Last minute sales were also concluded in Central Asia (Saran), Chinese Taipei (ELTA), Hong Kong (PCCW), the Maldives (Medianet), Mongolia (Content Distribution LLC) and the Philippines (Cignal TV).

May 2 – FIFA and its president Gianni Infantino are threatening a broadcast blackout of the Women’s World Cup in Europe’s ‘Big 5’ TV markets over “disappointing” broadcast offers.
With less than 100 days to go until the kick-off of this summer’s flagship women’s tournament in Australia and New Zealand, Infantino said the offers from broadcasters in Italy, Germany, France, the UK and Spain “are still very disappointing and simply not acceptable”.

September 29 – German players will bank €400,000 if they win the World Cup in Qatar.
The tournament bonuses for the team were agreed after negotiations with the players. “We had intense discussions in a good and constructive atmosphere,” said DFB President Bernd Neuendorf following a meeting with team representatives Manuel Neuer, Thomas Mueller, Joshua Kimmich and Ilkay Guendogan. “At the end of the day, we have found an acceptable solution for everyone.”
The Germans will get 400,000 euros if they bring the trophy home for a fifth time.

July 20 – Overseas fans in Russia for the World Cup spent about €1.3 billion between June 14 and July 16, according to a report by Russia’s Sberbank.
The state-owned lender analysed usage of foreign credit cards in the European part of Russia during the World Cup 2018, including all credit cards purchases, cash payments and currency conversions within the Sberbank network.

October 11 – FIFA has opened the financial compensation process for clubs whose players will be participating at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Club Benefits Programme will see $209 million distributed to clubs worldwide. In 2018, following the Russia World Cup, 416 clubs from 63 member associations benefitted from the programme.
Compensation for clubs sees $10,000 paid for each one of the days the relevant player remains with his national team during the Qatar 2022 World Cup and the official preparation period.

October 26 – UEFA has issued a breakdown of the prize money for the Women’s EURO 2022 to be held in England next summer, as well as more detail of the club benefits programme which will see clubs compensated for releasing players.
The women’s prize money has been doubled to €16 million but it still pales into significance when set against the €371 million prize money UEFA put up for the 2020 men’s Euros this year.
